The Bible says, “You must not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you are called to testify in a dispute, do not be swayed by the crowd to twist justice.” (Exodus 23:3) One of the hardest things about being a teenager is finding yourself in the minority and having to make a decision to follow the crowd and do wrong or saying no and being talked about. It is easy to say, “Do the right thing, don’t worry about it.” This is not always easier done as it is to say. Who was to be talked about, dislike, mocked, teased, and everything else that comes with being weird? No one!
I believe many teens need to be encouraged in this area. I’ve found myself in a similar situation. Yes, I chose to do the right thing and say no. I was talked about and disregarded from that point forward. It bothered me for a long time, even to the point I didn’t want to go back to school. I knew I was doing the right thing but it was still hard.
What about those who don’t have the strength to be different, to stand against the crowd? Where will they find themselves. Well, I want to encourage you to stay strong. Your decision not to follow a crowd of people who are wrong will pay off.
